Sydney Visitor" has announced the launch of the shows Fan Page on the Facebook
social networking platform. This page will allow Facebook estimated 70 million
users to become fans of the show, and instantly receive notification to their
Facebook inbox, whenever new information is published or added to the page.
The Sydney Visitor internet radio show and podcast was launched in early 2008, and
it aims to provide "The definitive podcast guide to visiting Sydney Australia".
Show host Garry Searle, a local of Sydney, explains that the show is all about
making sure that intending tourists make best use of time when they get to
Australia. "Australia is such a unique destination and there's so much to know that
sometimes you just need some local knowledge to help you along. The Sydney Visitor
is all about answering people's questions about Sydney and Australia, and doing it
an honest and accessible way".
The Sydney Visitor fan page contains a discussion forum where visitors can post
their questions on Sydney and Australia, as well as asking for tips and advice.
Searle also posts a selection of videos that showcase some of Sydney's attractions,
and the podcast can be heard on the pages podcast player.
When asked about the idea behind the Facebook page, Searle explains that it seemed a
natural development for the show. "I'm a keen Facebook user myself, and it seems to
me that plenty of users are also into travelling. The Facebook Fan page is a place
for Facebook users to come and have all their questions about Australia answered.
By becoming a fan, any new info goes straight to your news feed."
Although podcasts are gaining in popularity, Searle is quick to emphasize that the
technology is not important. "Just think of podcasts as a radio show that you listen
to over the internet. The only difference is that you don't need to tune in at a
certain time to get the episode, just go to the website any time you like, and
listen to as many episodes as you like, at the time and place that suits you."
